Why Heartland

Markets change, but our focus on long-term results does not.

All our shareholders choose our Funds largely because of Heartland’s long-term focus and proven portfolio results. We believe our Funds are a good fit for a wide range of investors who enjoy working with a Firm they trust.

Defined investment philosophy

Heartland Advisors, Inc.'s Founder and President, Bill Nasgovitz started this Company in the midst of a very difficult market. He believed that his contrarian approach would work – and it did. After all these years, our confidence in value investing hasn’t wavered.

Outstanding historical results

All three of our Funds deliver returns that speak for themselves. Experienced investors recognize the value of a high overall return rate greater than its benchmark or the S&P 500 measure of the broad market. Outperforming the market in a risk conscious manner is our common pursuit.

A disciplined and consistent process

Our proprietary 10 Principles of Value Investing™ has stood the test of time. In use for over a quarter of a century, through both bull and bear markets, it has served shareholders well.  Every Heartland portfolio is managed with the same consistent implementation of our 10 Principles of Value Investing.™

Experienced and knowledgeable fund managers

Heartland's investment team includes 14 portfolio managers, research analysts and traders with over 150 years of combined investment industry experience (as of 6/30/08).

Memorable service

Our friendly shareholder-support representatives value our shareholders’ time, financial goals and investment capability. We gladly take the time to talk with you when you call or visit our office. We encourage you to give us feedback about anything you like or dislike, especially if you need assistance or have concerns. We are here to help you.

Employees who are committed shareholders

Our Company is  employee-owned. Each employee has an interest in making sound decisions that support the Funds and will make a positive impact on the portfolio. We’re also enthusiastic advocates for shareholder rights and follow a strict code of ethics.

Shareholders who are committed to long-term growth

As a shareholder, you’re part of a group of investors who have identified long-term appreciation as a portfolio objective. You’ve also chosen a Fund Company that has a proven track record.

Accessible for novice investors

You don’t need to be a millionaire to invest in our Funds. It takes only $1,000 to start. (By the way, if you do happen to be a millionaire, and are going to invest over $500,000, you might be interested in learning more about Heartland's Institutional class of shares, or separate accounts managed by Heartland Advisors.)

We invite you to learn more about the Funds or contact us if you have any questions.

Value-based investments may be subject to the risk that the broad market may not recognize their intrinsic worth. An investment in the Funds involves risks, including loss of principal.

S&P 500 Index is an index of 500 U.S. stocks chosen for market size, liquidity and industry group representation and is a widely used U.S. equity benchmark. All indices are unmanaged. It is not possible to invest directly in an index.
